PERMIT HOLDER AND CREW MEMBER COUNTS BY CENSUS AREA AND CITY

TABLE DESCRIPTION
A count of where permit holders and crew members reside summarized by Alaskan city, Alaskan Census Division, and residency by year.

The tables contain the following information:

YEAR
The year of the permit holder and crew member counts. The report is created for the most recently completed crew license year available.

CENSUS AREA
The federal census area number and census area name. Only Alaskan census areas are reported on individually. If no census area is found the area number will appear as ‘99’ and the name as ‘Unknown’.

CITY
The city of residence for permit holders and crew members. Only Alaskan cities are reported on individually.

Permit Holders - The city of residence and residency are based on the city and residency indicated the most recent time a permit was renewed or issued. Any permit holders claiming nonresidency, regardless of the address provided, are grouped under the category ‘Nonresident’. Any permit holders with a non-Alaska address who claim Alaska residency are grouped under the category ‘Alaska Resident, Unknown City’.

Crew members. - The city of residence and residency are based on the city and state address on the crew license application. Crew records where the state is recorded as other than Alaska are grouped under the category ‘Nonresident’. Crew records where the state is recorded as Alaska but the city does not match the federal census city data are grouped under‘Alaska Resident, Unknown City’.

NUMBER OF PERMIT HOLDERS
Count of permit holders that reside in the specified city or are classified as nonresident. Only the current holders of the permits are counted. Revoked holders and emergency transferees are not counted. Holders of vessel permits and special use permits such as experimental, test fishing, educational, reservation, and hatchery are excluded from this report as well.

NUMBER OF CREWMEMBERS
Count of crew members that reside in the specified city or are classified as nonresident. Crew members who are permit holders in other fisheries are not required to purchase a crew license so they may not appear in the crew member license data. Individuals who did have both a permit and a crew license are not counted as crew members in this report to avoid double counting. This count also excludes crew members who did not provide a social security number on the crew license application.

The crew member information in this table is static. The information was provided by Administrative Services at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and any changes, updates, or corrections made by ADF&G to the crew data after CFEC received a copy will not be reflected in this report.
