Basic Information Table Description

Permanent Permits Renewed
Number of permanent limited entry permits renewed.
Resident: Number of permits renewed by residents of the State of Alaska.  Alaska residency is determined by the fee class selected at the time of renewal.
Non-Resident: Number of permits renewed by people who are not residents of the State of Alaska.
Interim Permits Issued
Number of interim use permits issued.  Interim permits are issued to people who have applications pending for permanent permits in limited fisheries.  For unlimited fisheries, this is the same as the total number of permits issued.
Resident: Number of permits issued to residents of the State of Alaska.  Alaska residency is determined by the fee class selected at the time of issuance or renewal.
Non-Resident: Number of permits issued to people who are not residents of the State of Alaska.
Total Permits Issued/Renewed
Total number of permits issued/renewed within resident and non-resident categories.
Total Permits Fished
Number of permits actually fished, as reflected by the fish tickets, within resident and non-resident categories.
Total Pounds
Total pounds of fish landed, as reflected by the fish tickets, by resident and non-resident categories.  The pounds figure represents targeted and incidental catch on permits for this fishery.
Average Pounds
Average pounds of fish landed per permit fished, within resident and non-resident categories.  This is simply Total Pounds divided by Total Permits Fished for resident and non-resident permits.
Total Gross Earnings
Total gross earnings from the fish landed on permits in this fishery, across resident and non-resident categories.  The CFEC uses Processor Annual Reports and fish tickets to derive a weighted average price per pound for each species, gear, and area of landing combination.  This price is multiplied by the pounds to come up with estimated gross earnings for the species-gear-area of landing.
Average Gross Earnings
Average gross earnings for each permit fished, within resident and non-resident categories.  This is simply Total Gross Earnings divided by Total Permits Fished for resident and non-resident permits.
Average Permit Price (Limited Fisheries Only)
Average selling price of permanent permits in this fishery.  CFEC permit value estimates are based on the market values from actual transactions as reported on the transfer surveys.  By statute and regulation, the financial data reported on the CFEC permit transfer surveys are confidential and cannot be disclosed to the public.  For reporting purposes, CFEC estimated permit market values must be averages from at least four transactions.

In the current year, the most recent estimate is based on the current month's value as well as those of the preceding two months.  Where insufficient data exist (fewer than four transactions) during a three-month period, additional data from earlier months are included until an adequate number of observations are obtained to meet confidentiality requirements.

For past years, year-end estimates are provided.  Year-end estimates are calculated using market values from transactions that occurred between January and December.

Statutes and regulations governing Confidentiality Standards are (AS 16.05.815 and 20 AAC 05.930).  Pounds, earnings, and permit values are replaced by periods when there are too few observations to meet reporting standards for maintaining confidentiality.
